The production that makes it real
Begin with production.
You can originate the concept and you can document it. What is missing is the expertise to lead the build — the production timeline, the final walk through, the staffing, the plan that makes the room look and feel like the design deck.
AI can paint a pretty picture. That does not mean anyone in the room knows how to bring it to life. Direction requires fluency: what a thing costs, what it takes to hang, who actually builds it, and whether it will hold. Without that you are not directing the lighting designer, you are approving what he sent you.
This is the one you cannot fix from a laptop. Reading about production leadership does roughly nothing. You get it by standing in a room with a real install and directing it, while somebody who has done it for twenty years is next to you. It is not a talent gap. It is an exposure gap.
